Our small herd
Patsy, our oldest at 3 years, is the pasture boss. She makes sure that the others know who rules the roost but does so in a gentle way. The bull, Roo, takes in all of her doings and watches over her and the other two with a sharp eye. It is suprising to see how alert and watchful they all are. Nothing escapes their eyes, a dog running around across the road, a neighbor moving around their property or even a large bird sitting on a fence post.
The other two heifers are Honey and Sugar. They are both black, as is Patsy, while Roo is red. We chose the cattle carefully so as to breed to our desires. Hopefully the offspring will be as we want.
